Biography

I have specialized expertise in Critical Care Nursing. I have finished my Bachelors Honors degree in ‘Clinical and Professional Nursing Studies’ from the Anglia University in UK and a Master’s degree in Health Care Management at the Open University of Cyprus. I have also studied a Post Graduate diploma in Emergency and Critical Care Nursing. Recently, I have finished my PhD in Critical Care Nursing at the Cyprus University of Technology. My long past experience as a nurse in Intensive Care Units and as a clinical educator in ICU has inspired me to develop research in critical care. I am currently working at the Education Sector of the Department of Nursing Services at the Ministry of Health. I am the lead co-ordinator of a Post-Graduate diploma level, 1 year, Critical Care Course, which is under the auspices of the Cyprus University of Technology. I am also, an invited lecturer at the Cyprus University of Technology, Department of Nursing. At a national level, I am the chair of the Critical Care and Emergency Nurses Department of the Cyprus Nurses and Midwives Organization; at an international level, I am a council member of the European Federation of Critical Care Nurses Associations (EfCCNa). I have been a member of the EfCCNa’s Education committee and participated in the development of the European Critical Care Nurses Competencies Tool which is being used for clinical or research purposes in many European countries and being translated into foreign languages. I am also an International Advance Life Support instructor and Generic course Instructor of the European Resuscitation Council. I have published several research articles in critical care, and I have made many presentations nationally and internationally. My research interests include Critical care Nursing, Pain assessment and management in the critically ill patient and the value of several biochemical indicators and neuropeptides for the detection of pain in the critically ill.
